Saints Women Fall Short at Corning

CORNING — The Corning Community College women's basketball team outscored North Country 43-34 in the final two quarters en route to a 65-58 win Saturday.

Heading into the third quarter, the Saints had a slim 24-22 lead before the Red Barons put their foot on the gas in the third and fourth quarters.

Hailey Stratton finished with a game-high 24 points for Corning, while Amber Edwards chipped in with 22 points. The Red Barons (3-0) remain undefeated.

For North Country, Romeira Tucker and Sydney Craig combined for 35 points to lead the Saints (2-3).

North Country coach Jerrad Dumont said the Saints had some positives and negatives but added the Red Barons rebounded well.

"Instead of keeping up our same defensive intensity, they picked it up, and we could not keep up with them," Dumont said.

North Country will next take on the Finger Lakes Community College.
