Sophomore Leadership Helps Saints Prevail

The North Country women's basketball team jumped out to an 11-4 lead within the first 4 minutes of play and did not let up the entire game.   The Saints were able to outscore the Cougars in every quarter and earned a 85-41 victory in both teams' first matchup of the season.

North Country coach Jerrad Dumont said that his team was very excited to get on the floor for their first game.

"We dominated right from the start," Dumont said.  "I think that this says something about our team, more importantly about the leadership of our sophomores."

The Saints started 4 sophomores in the home opener, all whom which helped to fill the stat sheet for the Saints.  Romeira Tucker led North Country in scoring with 30 points, Katimia Smith pitched in with 17 points, and Brooke Howell dominated on the glass with 14 rebounds.  Coach Dumont stated after the game that he thought the leadership of his sophomores really helped settle everyone down both offensively and defensively.

Jasmine Dixon paced Clinton with 11 points, and Caitlin Pelkey totaled eight.

Defensively coach Dumont was most impressed with how, as a team, they handled returning standout Tori Trim as she only was able to get 7 points against the Saints.

The Saints will travel to Mohawk Valley to play in the Torchia Classic at 7 p.m. Saturday.

"I hope that this win calms us down a little bit," Dumont said. "I hope it gives us confidence and gives us a good work ethic heading into our first away trip of the season."
