Saints Drop Heartbreaker to Mohawk Valley

The Saints dropped a heartbreaker to rival Movawk Valley Saturday, 3-1, despite holding the lead much of the game and controlling possession throughout.

Morgan Fountain opened the scoring for the Saints at the 29:00 minute mark of the first half. Karlee Deaver assisted on the play. The Saints kept the pressure on for the rest of the half but couldn't find the back of the net again.

The Hawks came out flying in the first 5 minutes of the second half, but the Saints defense held strong and wouldn't concede. North Country again took control of the game and had several scoring opportunities taht they could not capitalize on again. Then on a quick counter, Mohawk took a shot from 25 yards out that slipped through Saints keeper Jadeen Chisholm's hands and tied the game at 1-1.

The two teams battled for the rest of the half with NCCC furiously attacking Mohawk to take the lead. With 2:30 left in the game, Mohawk scored on a counter with a low shot to the corner for the game winner.

"That hurt a lot. We controlled the entire game and we could not put another goal in," said Saint's Coach Kent Egglefield. "They scored twice on their only 3 shots."

The Hawks added a third goal with a penalty kick in the final seconds of the game.

"We played really tough at times, but we got lazy on their counters. Our defense, Abby, Taylor, Alexa, and Alli, were all amazing today. I can't say enough good things about them." said Egglefield

The Saints are back in action Wednesday with their toughest game yet, against #2 Herkimer. Herkimer has tallied 50 goals on the season while giving up 0.
