Saints Take Down Jefferson

The Saints scored just one goal, but that was all they needed to take down the Cannoneers at home.

After 34 minutes went by without a score from either team, North Country broke the tie in the 35th minute of the opening half when Morgan Fountain took a though pass from Jenny Ward and found the back of the net for her 6th goal of the season.

North Country goalkeeper Jadeen Chisholm finished the game with seven saves for her first collegiate shutout, while Katie Aldrich made 13 stops in net for Jefferson Community College.

"It was a good bounce-back game from our loss against Tompkins-Cortland. Jefferson is a really good team, and I was happy with how we did," North Country coach Kent Egglefield said. "The best part was that we gave up 10 shots, but my goalie saw them all. Our defense played phenomenal. Abby Barnes, Alexa Whitney, Allison Richards, and Taylor Winch did a great job for us."

The Saints next game is slated for noon Saturday at home against SUNY Broome — one of the nation's top teams.

"That's going to be a tough one. They're a phenomenal team," Egglefield said. "We upset them last year when they were No. 1 in the country, so hopefully we can do it again."
