Saints Beat Rival Cougars

The Saints beat rival Clinton 7-0 in a lopsided affair on Wednesday. From the start the Saints controlled possession and dominated the midfield. After several shots and great saves by the Clinton keeper, the Saints finally broke through with Morgan Fountain placing a perfect shot on a feed from Kodi Perkins. Just over a minute later, Brenna Whitney put the Saints up 2-0 driving home a Courtney Boyea cross. The Saints then closed out the first half scoring with just 11 seconds left when Perkins scored one for herself on a nice pass from Jessica Rizk to make it 3-0.

"I liked the way we possessed the ball in the first half." said Head Coach Kent Egglefield. "We passed well, shared the ball well, and kept good pressure on."

The second half started quickly for the Saints with Fountain scoring her second just 1:19 in, again on a feed by Perkins. Ten minutes later, Boyea made it 5-0 converting a cross by Perkins with a great finish. Eight minutes later, Boyea added her 2nd of the game with a beautiful free kick from 25 yards out. Fountain then completed the scoring, and her hat trick, taking a great through pass from Alli Richards and finishing to the corner.

On the day, the Saints outshot the Cougars 26-1. Shelby Egnaczyk recorded the shutout making just one save in the final minute of play.

Morgan Fountain finished with 3 goals and 1 assist. Courtney Boyea recorded 2 goals and an assist. And Kodi Perkins added 1 goal and 3 assists.

"Our defense was incredibly strong again today." stated Egglefield. "They kept Clinton pinned in their own end and engaged well offensively. Jess Lawrence, Abbey Lapage, and Marissa St. Pierre were strong in the midfield as well."

The Saints improved to 5-1 on the season.

The Saints return to action again Saturday at 1pm with a home tilt vs. national power Mohawk Valley.
