Saints Volleyball Continues to Show Improvement

Despite a rough start record wise, the Saints have posted together several impressive matches for a first year program, even in defeat. Coach Czadzeck summarized the weekends POD matches below.

9/19 POD @ Adirondack Community College

Game 1 vs. Jamestown (L)

Scores: 11-25            Stats:  Molly Sorrell- 2 kills, 8 attempts

            11-25                Emma Weyand- 6 assists

             9-25                Ashlee Sprowl- 9 digs

We had a slow start to our day.  The team struggled to come together.  We used this as motivation going into our next match.  Our goal for the rest of the day was to have fun, play hard, and put this first game behind us.

Game 2 vs. Erie (L)

Scores: 16-25            Stats:  Jordyn Santana-  2 kills

13-25                       Brianna McCoy- 2 kills, 3 solo blocks

12-25                     Crystal Plowe- Sovey- 2 assists

                                           Tia Higgins- 2 digs

Molly Sorrell- 2 aces, 11 digs

During this match we decided to switch things up a bit.  Crystal came on the court as our setter and we played Emma W. opposite.  Tia made her debut playing back row and really shined on the court.  The team came together, fought for each point, hustled and put a lot of heart into this game.  You could feel their positive spirit.

Game 3 vs. Niagara (L)

Scores:  13-25        Stats:    Molly Sorrell- 11 kills

            25-21                      Jordyn Santana- 6 kills

            20-25                      Emma Weyand- 16 assists, 3 aces

            25-22                      Ashlee Sprowl- 11 digs

             7-15                       Brianna McCoy- 6 blocks

                                          Crystal Plowe- Sovey- 2 aces

We couldn't of ended our day on a better note.  We went into this game after sitting for a few hours, so I wasn't sure how that would affect us.  Throughout the day coaches were giving us compliments on how we were a great team and how they were pleasantly surprised to see such a new program doing well.  Going into the second set I used this as motivation.  I told them all the great things that had been buzzing around about our team and they couldn't be happier.  In that set I saw them pulling together, correcting errors, guiding each other on the court, and celebrating their victories.  Ashley and I were beaming from the sideline.  We were even more excited to find out that Niagara went to the Region 3 finals match last year, and we were able to give them a run for their money.  I couldn't be prouder!
