Saints Overcome Sloppy Play in Win over Niagara

Niagara Falls, NY- The Saints managed to to eek out a victory Saturday against Niagara CC, but it wasn't pretty.

Ella Rejiba, Kailey Barnes, and Brionna Foster all scored to give the Saints a 3-1 victory. Emma Byl added two assists and Rejiba one.

"We couldn't have played worse if we had to." stated Head Coach Kent Egglefield. "But a win is a win, and sometimes you have to win ugly."

The Saints led 1-0 at the half despite outshooting Niagara 13-2 in the first stanza. The second half wasn't very good to North Country either despite scoring twice as they outshot the Thunder Wolves 16-3.

"Over the last three games we've put 68 shots on net producing only 4 goals," said Egglefield. "We need to capitalize more on our opportunities or our season will end quicker than expected."

Hannah Gaddor was again, fantastic, in net recording only 4 saves, but all of them on tough shots, including saving a PK. Niagara would convert the rebound though for their only goal with a minute left in the contest.

With the win the Saints move to 5-2-2 on the season.

Next up for the Saints is a huge game at home Wednesday against our biggest rival, #3 Mohawk Valley. Gametime is 1:00pm.

GOAT of the Game

Our GOAT of the Game against Niagara is freshman Abby LaFountain from Crown Point, NY. After finally recovering from an illness that wiped out her energy, Abby was all over the field in our 3-1 win. Literally... Abby played both forward spots and all of the midfield provifding a shot in the arm to an otherwise lethargic effort by North Country. Abby created offensive chances every time she was in the attacking zone, using her speed and aggressiveness to cause havoc. Her effort and hustle shows what she has meant to this team all season. Whether scoring goals, drawing the defense, or filling in the midfield, Abby has been a major part of the Saints success this season. It was great to have her back at full strength! We're proud of you Abby! Congrats!
