Lincoln, RI- The Saints second game of their weekend road trip led them to Lincoln Rhode Island where they played to a 1-1 draw against #6 nationally ranked CC of Rhode Island.
The Saints came out strong producing several chances early but were unable to find the back of the net. The Saints finally converted at the 24:00 minute mark when Ella Rejiba placed a perfect shot to the top of the net to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
"I thought Ella stepped up big when we needed her most," said Saints Coach Kent Egglefield. "We were getting frustrated offensively, and she put it on her shoulders and got us on the board."
The lead ended up being short-lived however, as the Knights would put home a rebound to tie it just a few moments later. Saints keeper Hannah Gaddor made an outstanding diving save on the initial shot, but the rebound was failed to be cleared and the Knights would put it home for a 1-1 tie.
On the day the Saints outshot CCRI 20-8. Gaddor was outstanding making 7 saves.
With the tie the Saints moved to 4-1-2 on the season.
The Saints FINALLY return home this week with a big match against Jefferson CC wednesday at 2pm.
GOAT of the Game
Our GOAT of the Game vs. CC of Rhode Island goes to another sophomore captain, Riley Paschke. Riley is our center back and anchored our defense in limiting the Knights to just one goal on eight shots. Her patience, calmness, intelligence, and leaderhip have been on display all season long. Riley and the defense rank in the top ten nationally through seven games having surrendered only 5 goals. Riley's play against CCRI showed why she is one of the best defenders in all of the NJCAA. She is the team's security blanket and continues to amaze us with her play everytime we step on the field. We love you "Johnny". Congrats Ri!!
