Herkimer, NY- Ella Rejiba scored both Saints goals as they played to a 2-2 draw with Herkimer CC Sunday afternoon.
After Herkimer got on the board just over five minutes into the game, Rejiba answered with her first marker just over five minutes later at the 11:08 mark. Brionna Foster assisted on the play.
Rejiba would tally again at 16:47 with a laser from 25 yards out. Emma Byl forced a turnover and played Rejiba into space for the assist.
The lead would be short lived though as Herkimer would score an own goal off a cross that deflected in off a Saints defender in front just under five minutes later at 21:23. That would finish the scoring on the day as the two teams battled hard for the rest of the half and all of the second stanza without producing another goal.
"I liked our compete level today," said Saints Coach Kent Egglefield. "We didn't play well at times, but the girls never quit and stood their ground. I'm proud of their toughness and effort. We bent but didn't break."
Hannah Gaddor had a strong game in net turning away 10 shots for North Country.
With the tie, the Saints move to 1-1-1 on the season. They return home on September 8th to face Finger Lakes CC. Game time is 1:00pm.
Our GOAT of the game against Herkimer was Kailey Barnes from Cherry Valley, NY. Barnes, normally a striker, played defense the entire second half and turned in an outstanding effort when her team really needed her. Her strong field sense and vision put her in the proper position throughout and helped her defense keep the score a two all draw. She showed why she possesses one of the strongest soccer IQ's on the roster. Congrats Kailey! Thank you for stepping up and showing your selflessness!
