Lady Saints Hold Off Hudson Valley

Lady Saints Hold Off Hudson Valley

Saranac Lake- The North Country Saints held off a tough Hudson Valley squad, hanging on to win 2-1 in a back and forth contest.

Despite having four starters still sidelined, the Saints struck first as Kate Kavanagh made a great move to beat the defender and buried one into the corner to make it 1-0.

After a Hudson Valley missed penalty kick, the Saints scored on one of their own as Mikenna Valentine made her PK after being taken down in the box.

Hudson Valley struck with :40 seconds left in the first half to cut the lead to 2-1 going into halftime.

From there on the Saints goalkeeper and defense took over the second half to hold on for a 2-1 win.

The two teams were even in shots 13-13. Alison Van Schaik was rock-solid in the North Country goal making 12 saves.

"We knew with several players out we would have to win ugly." said Saints Coach Kent Egglefield. "In the end it doesn't matter how pretty it was as long as we came out with the W."

Kylee Peterson was fantastic on defense locking down Hudson Valley's leading scorer the whole game.

"We gave Kylee a job and she didn't disappoint." Egglefield said. "Other than taking their PK, 19 didn't get a shot off all game. Kylee locked her down."

"Carlijn van der Smeede also had a strong game for us defensively. We moved her back because of injuries and she has been fantastic."

The Saints are off for ten more days again before taking on Niagara County Community College at home on October 1st.

GOAT of the Game

For the second game in a row, our GOAT goes to Kylee Peterson from Chateaugay, NY. Her lockdown defense on Hudson Valley's leading scorer helped her team secure the 2-1 win. Kylee has been a rock for the Saints midfield this season. Congrats Kylee, keep it up!!
