Saints Win First Leg of BEK1ND Cup

Saranac Lake- In game 1 of the BEK1ND Memorial Cup, the Saints were able to fight off a talented and feisty Middlesex team 4-1. The Saints are up three points heading into the final tomorrow.

The Saints struck first just 3 minutes into the game when Chloe Flannaghan played a through ball to Mikenna Valentine who buried it for a 1-0 Saints lead.

Middlesex would tie it at 1-1 as Kimberly Suffrant put in a breakaway of her own on a feed from Nicole Naranjo.

The Saints would re-take the lead after Kate Kavanagh put home a cross from Valentine for a 2-1 lead going into the half.

The Saints added two second half goals from Flannaghan to take home a 4-1 win.

Mikenna Valentine finished the day with a goal and 2 assists while Chloe Flannaghan had 2 goals and 1 assist. Alison Van Schaik turned in a solid performance with 6 saves.

"They were a tough and feisty team," said Saints Coach Kent Egglefield. "I was impressed with their effort. But when you have scorers like Mikenna and Chloe, you're never out of any game. Kate has some great potential to give us a third option."

"I moved Carlijn to defense today with Averi out, and she was pretty great for us. Ali was solid in net as usual."

"We didn't play our best, but still came out with a win." added Egglefield. "A three goal cushion is nice heading into the final, but we still have work to do. This tournament means so much to me, the girls, and all the Saints families and we want to finish strong for Beck."

The BEK1ND Cup final will be played tomorrow at 12pm.

GOAT of the Game

Our GOAT of the game has to go to one of our sophomore captains, Chloe Flannaghan. Chloe notched two goals and a helper, but her play through the midfield really helped control the game for the Saints. Congrats Chloe!
