Saint's Lacrosse Earns Victory over Jefferson

Watertown, NY- The Saints women's lacrosse team earned a hard-fought 14-13 victory over Jefferson CC to improve to 1-1 on the season.

Leading 9-8 after a back and forth first half, the Saints came out strong in the second with 3 quick goals to extend their lead to 12-8. But Jefferson wouldn't go away and came back with 4 of their own to tie it at 12. With 5 minutes left, Bailee Gauthier tallied to put the Saints up 1. Jefferson once again tied it with 3 minutes to go.

With the score tied Olivia Woolheater made a big save that lead to a breakout for Jasmine Cruse who hit a long pass down field to a streaking Mikaela Bessette who put home the game winner with just under two minutes left.

Nidia DeArmaYero had an amazing game for the Saints scoring 7 times. Ty Taylor, Bailee Gauthier, and Mikaela Bessette all scored 2 each, and Alexis Poirier scored 1. Gauthier also added 3 assists and Bessette and Kara Davis each added two.

"When all of our top players are putting the ball in the net, we're always going to be in it," said Saints Head Coach Kent Egglefield. "Our four defenders, Jasmine Cruse, Tameka Patch, Rebecca Delair, and Katie Holvik, were very strong today. They closed gaps and picked up their cutters well. We had a few defensive miscues, but its early and we'll fix them."

Rosie Bamber picked up the win in net recording 5 saves while Olivia Woolheater stopped 5 in relief also

Egglefield also said the Saints received strong games in the Draw Circle where Kara Davis and Amber Bailey consistently won.

The Saints go on the road again to face Genesee CC Saturday and Sunday.
