Saints Open Inaugural Tourney With a Win

Saranac Lake- The North Country Community College women's basketball team dumped Mercyhurst Northeast, 79-35, in a non-region game to continue its undefeated streak.

The Saints' Kayla Carder led the team with a game-high 18 points.

Talesa Campbell came through with 17 points, and Lavender Ward tossed in 13 points for North Country.

"We started out quite slow, scoring only four points in the first five minutes, but when we turned it up defensively and started to move the ball, we had a lot of success," Saints coach Jerrad Dumont said.

"Carder led us with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Talesa Campbell had 17 points and eight assists."

North Country led 46-16 at halftime.

Mercyhurst's Essence Sims recorded 11 points, and Cerenity Chambers registered eight.

The Saints will play at home on Sunday, Dec. 12 at 12 p.m.
