Hunter's 48 Leads North Country Past Herkimer on Senior Night

SARANAC LAKE — Damon Hunter went off for 48 points as the North Country Community College men's basketball team downed Herkimer County Community College 99-82 in Region III play.

Hunter's outstanding performance led the Saints on Senior Day.

"Amazing. Just amazing what he did (Saturday)," North Country coach Daryl Crist said. "To be able to do that against the number two team in our region was amazing.

"He controlled the game from the tip and had it going offensively. That's the beauty of having a sophomore who understands the moment and just takes the lead when you need him to."

Shamar Logins (18), Joseph Pinero (14) and Dequan Pitts (10) chipped in for the Saints in the point category.

Melad Daoud registered a team-high 17 points for the Generals.

North Country will enter the playoffs as the No. 5 seed and travel to face No. 4 Cayuga Community College at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region III tournament.

"The team is doing exactly what good teams do this time of year," Crist said. "We are continuously working hard, which we stress, and working to get better. Those are the things that will take us to the tournament on a good note."
