Saint's finish semester strong

The North Country Community College men's basketball team continued its winning ways Saturday.  After a slow start to their 2013-14 campaign, the Saints (6-5, 4-5) picked up their fourth win in six games, defeating Jefferson Community College in Region III play, 75-64.

"We really shared the basketball well," North Country coach Chad LaDue said. "We made them defend us, which opened things up. We shot the ball well in the second half, too.

"On defense, we held them to 25 points in the second half. I thought we did a real good job on holding them to one shot, containing and defending."

The Saints had four players finish in double figures.

Ivan Grcic led the way with 20 points, while Michael Boyea (12), Matthew Gullotta (11) and Clement Gibson (10) combined for 33 points.

"All 10 guys that played gave us great minutes," LaDue said. "If we want to be successful, we need all our guys to step up. I thought Ivan Grcic had one of his best games of the year. I really liked Clement Gibson coming off the bench and playing extremely well, too.

"Matthew Gullotta and Michael Boyea, they do a great job of leading by example and working hard. This win was a nice way to end the semester. We finished well, and I hope this success carries through when we return from break Jan. 4."

Gullotta added 16 rebounds and Grcic 10 rebounds, reaching double-double status. Boyea dished out five assists, while Gibson added four helpers.

North Country will begin the 2014 calendar year at SUNY Adirondack Jan. 9.
