SARANAC LAKE — In a back-and-forth matchup, the Saints found a way to squeeze one out at home against the Red Barons.

North Country coach Chad LaDue said he was happy with how his team played.

The Saints (5-1) had a strong showing in the first half, outscoring Corning 46-27 to give themselves a comfortable cushion heading into the half.

However, after the break, Corning made a comeback, which gave the game an exciting finish. The Red Barons closed the gap to eight points, but North Country's early lead was too much to overcome.

LaDue said he was proud that his team, which has 16 freshman, never gave up.

"We didn't pack up the tent and fold it in. We kept fighting," he said. "We dealt with foul trouble, but we got the big Region III win."
