North Country Men Survive Final Push from Corning

Playing at Chateaugay Central School comes naturally for Michael Boyea, a Chateaugay alum, and it was evident in Saturday's 67-63 win for North Country Community College over the Red Barons of Corning Community College.

Boyea led a balanced scoring attack for the Saints with 14 points and six assists. Nine of the 11 Saints that saw action in Saturday's game contributed to the scoring for North Country's win. "All of Michael's teammates really rallied around him and wanted to see him get this win in his 'home gym,'" said Head Coach Chad LaDue.

Knotted 32-32 at the half, the Saints went on a 14-4 run to start the second half. The Saints got 17 points from their bench contributing to a true team win. "This was just a great team win in a great community. I think that we really shared the ball well in the second half which lead to our success. Aside from shooting just 12-30 from the free throw line, I was very happy with our performance," said LaDue.

Serbian native Ivan Grcic added 11 points and 6 rebounds. Co-captian Matthew Gullotta chipped in 8 points and 11 rebounds. Thomas Barnes added 9 points--including two well-timed three-pointers. Transfers Ege Cinel added 8 and Nikola Cvetanovic added 9 points and a huge defensive effort. "Nikola did an amazing job defending the region's leading scorer Sayquan Chambers, holding him to only 6pts," said LaDue.

The Saints are back in action at Chateaugay, taking on Finger Lakes Community College at 1pm.
