Saints Women Finish Strong Road Trip

The Saints women's soccer team travelled to Massachusetts over the weekend to take on a pair of Region 21 teams, Holyoke CC and Bristol CC.

On Saturday the Saints took on defending Regional Champ and National Semi-Finalist Holyoke. The match ended in a 1-1 2OT tie for the Saints. Skyelin Bradford scored the Saints lone goal in the first half off a beautiful feed from Kaitlin Reeman to put NCCC up 1-0 at the half. The Saints played most of the half without leading scorer Nidia DeArmaYero who was injured early.

"Its a scary thing to watch your best player and leader go down," said Coach Kent Egglefield. "But the girls never faltered and stepped up in her absence. Skyelin played like a girl possessed and scored only minutes after Nids left."

DeArmaYero did return for the second half. Midway through the second, Holyoke was able to slip a player down the side for a breakaway and knotted the score at 1-1. The two teams battled through the rest of the half and two overtimes before settling for a 1-1 draw. Rosie Bamber was incredible in the Saints goal stopping 7 shots including 3 breakaways, one with :30 seconds left in the last OT.

"Rosie was hands down the best player on the field today." stated Egglefield. "I haven't seen a performance like that in quite some time. She was an absolute beast in net."

With the Tie, the Saints moved to 5-1-1.

The following day the Saints struck early and often for a 10-1 victory over Bristol CC. Skyelin Bradford led the way with 4 goals and an assist while Nidia DeArmaYero added 2 and 2. Jenny Dejung chipped in a goal and an assist, while Amber Bailey, Emma St.Pierre, and Alexis Poirier each added their first goals of the season. Ella Smalley added 2 assists, and St.Pierre, Kaitlin ReemanTaylor Razis, and Alycia Cowan all had 1 assist. Rosie Bamber made 4 saves in net.

The Saints improved to 6-1-1 on the season and will face Mohawk Valley on Saturday in Utica.
