Patch's 2OT Free Kick Sends Saints to Region 3 Semis

Corning-

The North Country CC women's soccer team advanced to the Region 3 Semi-Finals with a hard fought battle against Corning CC 2-1 in 2OT.. North Country struck in the first four minutes of the game with a goal from Taylor Razis that beat Corning Keeper Taylor Gray on the near post. Nidia DeArmaYero picked up the assist on the play.

The Saints held the 1-0 advantage at halftime but early in the second half, Kerene Johnson got behind the Saints defense and beat goalie Anna Thrasher to tie the score at 1-1. The rest of the game saw plenty of chances from both squads, with play going back and forth with several opportunities from both sides.

The first OT saw much of the same with play going back and forth without an ending in sight. In the second OT, the Saints came out hard and were awarded a free kick outside the penalty area just 1:39 in. Saints sophomore Captain Tameka Patch launched a perfect shot and scored in the bottom left corner sending her team to victory and a semi-final match-up with #1 Erie CC.

"We worked on direct kicks the day before and Tameka wanted that shot," said Saints Head Coach Kent Egglefield. "I couldn't be more proud of her. She deserved it. She was incredible all game long."

"My biggest thought was I didn't want such a great game decided on PK's, so thank god she buried that. It's the type of moment you dream of as an athlete and she embraced it." stated Egglefield.

Both keepers were amazing on the day with Saints goalie Anna Thrasher recording 11 saves.

The Saints move on to a semi-final match with #1 Erie CC on Thursday in Buffalo.
