NCCC Women Get Back on Track

NCCC Women Get Back on Track

The North Country Women's soccer team got back on track Saturday with a 5-3 win over Adirondack Community College.

The Saints came out hard but had 2 early goals waved off on controversial offsides calls. The frustration got to the team and they gave up a goal at the 9:00 minute mark. The Saints would quickly tie it at 1 just two minutes later as Brittany Wilson put home her first collegiate goal on a cross from Cheyenne Blair that was flicked on by Jasmin Barnes. ANother questionable call, this time on defense, put the Timberwolves back on top with a penalty kick. Just 90 seconds later, ACC added their third goal of the game for a 3-1 lead.

"We had a terrible first half. We let the calls against us get in our heads and lost complete focus."Said Head Coach Kent Egglefield. "We need to shake things like that off and keep working hard."

The Saints cut the lead to 3-2 on Wilson's second goal of the game, again from Barnes, with 18:00 minutes to go to close out th first half scoring. At the half, the Timberwolves held a 9-8 shot advantage.

After the half, the Saints looked like a completely diferent team scoring just 4 minutes in on Kate Stevens first career goal with Barnes picking up her third assist. 30 seconds later Barnes would tally a goal of her own to give the Saints their first lead and one they wouldn't look back on.

"We needed to come out that strong in the second and get back to playing our game. Luckily we did." stated Egglefield. "We controlled the entire second half."

Jenny Ward would add the final goal of the game converting a Chloe Nott corner kick with 18 minutes to go. The Saints outshot ACC in the second half 14-0 and 22-9 for the game. Shelby Egnaczyk made 6 saves on the day in net.

The Saints return to the field next Saturday vs. Onondaga Community College. Gametime is 1:00pm.
