Saints Drop Tough Contest to Mohawk Valley

The Saints lost a tough home game Saturday to rival Mohawk Valley 2-0. The Hawks used two first half goals 90 seconds apart from Joelle Ceneviva to provide the margin of victory.

"We made two mistakes defensively today and they capitalized on both of them." said Saints Coach Kent Egglefield. "When you play against teams of that caliber you can't allow that to happen."

The teams battled equally throughout the first half with both teams registering eight shots on goal.

After the half the Saints came out firing on all cylinders. They outshot Mohawk 13-2 in the second half but just couldn't find the back of the net.

On the day the Saints outshot Mohawk Valley 21-10. Shelby Egnaczyk was great in goal once again making 8 saves.

"We've scored 3 goals in our last 5 games" stated Egglefield. "We couldn't buy a goal if we had to right now."

"That was one of the best games I've ever seen one of my teams play. It just doesn't make sense right now." added the coach.

Sophomore defender and captain Jenny Ward (Vermontville, NY) stated "We need to score goals, period. We dominated every aspect of that game and still lost. This one hurts."

Freshman captain Julia Anderson (Salmon Arm, Canada) added, "we fought so hard and just couldn't finish... we need to capitalize on our opportunities."

The Saints will need to shake it off quickly as nationally ranked Herkimer (#3) comes to Saranac Lake Wednesday at 2:00 pm.
