Saints Upend Delhi 6-1

After a ten day layoff, the Saints had a mixed start to their first game back. Playing in a heavy rain, Tori Bennett opened the scoring for the Saints just 90 seconds in converting a cross from Morgan Fountain. It would be a short lived lead though as Delhi converted from 20 yards out just over a minute later to knot it at 1.

The next 20 minutes would be very sloppy for the Saints. "We had a lull in play where I don't think we could've done anything right if we had to" commented Saints Head Coach Kent Egglefield. "The long layoff we've had was very evident early on." With 8:40 left in the half, Bennett struck again, this time heading home a cross from Courtney Boyea. "Tori came to play today." said Egglefield. "She was the best player on the field the entire first half."

Coming out of the break, Boyea put the Saints up 3-1, 8 minutes into the half on a long ball played by Abbey LaPage. Ten minutes later Courtney Hosler tallied a great break away goal on a through ball from Jess Lawrence.

Morgan Fountain closed out the scoring for the Saints tallting twice a minute apart with just under 15 to play in the game. Sarah Slattery, Lawrence, and Hosler assisted on the goals.

Shelby Egnaczyk had a strong game for the Saints turning aside 7 shots.

"A 10 day layoff combined with a four and a half hour trip down showed early." said Egglefield. "We settled down and found our stride in the second half and played better."

The Saints, who improved to 7-3 on the season, return to action Wednesday vs. Fulton Montgomery at 2PM
