Saints Fall to #5 Mohawk Valley

It was a tough day on the pitch for the Lady Saints falling 2-0 to the nations 5th ranked team Mohawk Valley CC. Both teams started strong exchanging early chances before the Hawksbroke through in the 15th minute for a 1-0 lead. Shelly McCall took a through pass and beat Saints keeper Shelby Egnaczyk with a low hard shot to the corner.

With the score still 1-0, the Saints pushed back putting heavy pressure on the Hawks, but were unable to find the back of the net. With 13 minutes left in the half, Mohawk took a Saints turnover the other way and converted a breakaway to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

"At halftime, the shots were 5-5. I think we played a decent half but we couldn't convert." said Head Coach Kent Egglefield.

Coming out of the break, the Saints withstood a quick burst from the Hawks and settled down to take control of possession. Despite holding the ball for much of the half, the Saints couldn't break through and the game ended in a 2-0 loss.

"We talked during practice all week about converting scoring chances against top teams because they don't give up too many of them" said Egglefield. "That was the difference in the game, they converted their chances and we didn't."

On the day Mohawk Valley outshot NCCC 9-8. Shelby Egnaczyk made 5 saves in net for the Saints.

"Our defense had a decent game. We held the nation's leading scorer(Janelle Dillenbeck) without a point." said Egglefield. "Sarah Slattery was very strong back there and contained her well."

"Courtney Boyea was also a standout for us today. I can't say enough good things about how she has played this season. She works harder than anyone and never has an off game. She's just so steady." stated Egglefield.

The schedule doesn't get easier for North Country as they travel to #2 ranked Herkimer on Wednesday.

"We don't have any time to dwell on today. Just look for the positives and move on. Wednesday is another big test."
