Coach Roy enters his 38th year of coaching collegiate basketball, his 19th as assistant during his second stint with North Country. Since returning to Saranac Lake, Roy along with former Coach Chad Ladue and current Men's and Women's coaches Daryl Crist and Jerrad Dumont has turned Saints Basketball into a Region III and National contender.

During his time as men's assistant, North Country has captured the 2005 Northern Independents Conference Tournament Championship, the 2006 NIC regular season championship and received numerous bids to the Region III tournament, culminating with a semi-final showing in 2016 

Coach Roy returned to the women's game with the onset of the 2014-2015 season and has served as assistant with both women's and men's programs since that time. His tenure with the women's team has been historic. In his first season North Country finished the year with a record of 25-3 - a program record at the time. During the next five campaigns the Saints continued to flourish under Roy's tutelage, earning three consecutive Mountain Valley Conference titles, two Region III Tournament Championships and two National Tournament bids. Due to their success the North Country coaching staff was awarded four Mountain Valley and Region III Coach of the Year honors plus two NJCAA District A Awards.

Roy began his coaching career, at North Country in the fall of1986, as an assistant in the women's program under Bill Johnson. After a five year stint he took over the Lady Saints and led them to back to back appearances in the NJCAA Region III Tournament. Coach Roy also held the position of Men's Basketball Coach at North Country during the 1993-94 and 1994-95 campaigns, in which Ladue was the starting point guard for the Saints.

In the fall of 1995 Roy left North Country and accepted the position as assistant coach with the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. During his eight years with the Cardinals he served as Junior Varsity Coach and held positions as assistant with the Men's  and Women's programs. Coach Roy also had the privilege of coaching several SUNYAC All Stars and was a member of the coaching staff that led Plattsburgh State to an undefeated home season during the 2001-2002 year and their first ECAC championship title in 1999.

Roy is originally  from Lisbon, New York  and holds degrees from SUNY- Canton and SUNY - Plattsburgh. He resides in Saranac Lake and is employed at the Mountain Lake Academy in Lake Placid.
