North Country defeats Schenectady on the road

Although it was just a 10-point game at halftime, the North Country women's basketball team pulled things together in the second half to come away with a 79-53 victory on the road against Schenectady County Community College Thursday night.

Following the game, Saints coach Jerrad Dumont admitted that he was a bit disappointed in his team's performance in the first 20 minutes of the game.

However, he was certainly satisfied with the play of his team in the second half.

"In the first half, we struggled to get quality shots because we were trying to create for ourselves instead of creating for other people," Dumont said. "We came out in the second half and defended tough, which allowed us to get more opportunities on the other end."

After holding a 37-27 lead at halftime, the second-ranked Saints (13-0, 5-0) managed to open things up in the second stanza by going on a 42-26 run in the final 20 minutes.

Pacing North Country were Latifah Fletcher, Morgan Fountain, Abby Barnes and Shaneika Smith.

Fletcher tallied 16 points to lead the Saints in scoring, while Fountain tallied 14 points and Barnes and Smith each added 10.

The Royals received solid contributions from Morgan Sullivan, Shiann Coons and Taylor Cater. Sullivan dropped a game-high 20 points, while Coons and Cater tallied 12 and 10, respectively.

The Saints will look to extend their unbeaten streak Saturday when they take on SUNY Delhi on the road.
