Saints fall short on the road

Fulton-Montgomery 78, North Country 65

JOHNSTOWN — The Raiders (4-8) challenged the Saints' (7-7) mental toughness early, maintaining a 21-point halftime lead and playing well defensively.

"We just did not come ready to play," North Country Community College coach Chad LaDue said. "I have to take ownership for that. I did not have them focused and ready to start the game. It's one of those things we have to do better, and it starts with me.

"Defensively, in the first half, we gave up too many second and third-chance opportunities and easy transition points. I went to 15 guys (Tuesday), looking for anybody in the first half that could tear it up and compete."

Daniel Trentsch paced the Saints with 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Srdjan Grcic added nine points on three 3-pointers.

Matthew Gullotta pulled down nine rebounds, while Michael Boyea and Clement Gibson each dished out four assists apiece.

"In the second half, I basically challenged them to see who we are and what we're about," LaDue said. "I will say that for at least 20 minutes, they competed. We shot 13-for-50 from 3-point land, which has to be the most attempted 3-pointers during my coaching tenure anyway. We better be focused and ready Thursday."

North Country will host Schenectady County Community College at 7 p.m. Thursday.
