Saints bounce back

NORTH COUNTRY C.C. 88; CAYUGA C.C. 76

SARANAC LAKE — The Saints, bouncing back from Saturday's 84-72 loss to Onondaga Community College, were on top of their game on Sunday.

Michael Boyea finished with a game-high 21 points and added six assists for North Country C.C. (5-5), while Ivan Grcic contributed 15 points and 14 rebounds, Daniel Trentsch 12 points, Thomas Barnes 10, and Matthew Gullotta nine points and a career-high 21 rebounds.

North Country held a 46-39 halftime lead.

"This was one of our best games of the season," North Country coach Chad LaDue said. "It was nice to bounce back from yesterday.

"We fell behind, 13-4, early today, but we put our second unit in and they really started playing well. We led by three or four points the rest of the first half before going on a little run at the end of the half.

"We came out strong to start the second half and went up by as many as 21 points."

The Saints shot the ball well, including going 27-of-31 from the foul line. Boyea made 10 of those.

"We shared the basketball," LaDue said. "We also shot the ball pretty well and, when we shoot the ball the way we did, we can play with anyone. But when we don't shoot it well, anyone can beat us."

The Saints are at Jefferson Community College on Saturday 1pm.
